How Often Should You Walk a Large Dog Living in an Apartment?
Hello, can anyone help me with this subject?
How do you organise walks and toilet breaks for a large dog in an apartment? We are interested in realistic routines that include sniffing, exercise, rest and getting outside when the dog needs to toilet.
We know there is no universal number or duration that suits every large dog. Puppies, active adults and dogs with mobility problems can have very different needs.
Please share what works for your dog. A small home is not a reason to restrict necessary outdoor access.

A practical routine separates toilet breaks from walks for exercise and sniffing. Offer regular chances to go outside at predictable times, such as first thing in the morning, after meals or naps when needed, and before bed.
Many toilet-trained adult dogs do well with an opportunity about every four hours, but this varies; puppies and dogs with health needs may need to go out more often.
Some outings can be short toilet breaks, while others can be slower walks that let the dog sniff and explore. Adjust the pace and length to the dog’s age, health and energy, and include proper rest at home. Stairs, lifts and the route outside can affect what is realistic in an apartment. If the dog seems uncomfortable, unusually tired or needs to toilet much more often, check with a vet.
Living in a small home does not remove a dog’s need for suitable outdoor access.
