Question · Q-00023
Are Tilt-and-Turn Windows Safe for Cats?
I’m looking at how to ventilate a home with tilt-and-turn windows, but I’m worried about the narrow gaps they leave when tilted open.
Could a cat get trapped or injured while trying to climb through? What window guards or other precautions have worked for you, and how do you check that they fit this type of window securely?
Please share your experience.
Many thanks.

A window left tilted open can create a narrowing gap that traps a cat attempting to climb through it. This matters in apartments where owners use the tilted position for ventilation and assume the opening is too small for an escape.
Do not treat a partially open window as automatically safe, even if your cat has never shown interest in it before. Plan ventilation around a secure arrangement that prevents access to the dangerous gaps.
Before buying protection, identify the exact window type and check that the product is designed for it.
